The Credentials of the Servant

Nov 10, 2024    Kirk Flaa

In nearly every aspect of our lives, when we seek guidance or help, we will seek someone "credentialed". That is, when my $5 Dodge needs fixing, I don't try it myself but rather take it to a certified auto mechanic. If I am desperately ill, I will employ the services of a doctor over that of a Fantasy Football buddy, or if my furnace goes out I will be calling Central Heating and Air and not customer service at Hyvee! You get the picture--when we require help with something specific we will refer to someone "credentialed" or qualified in our area of need.

As we launch into our sermon series titled "Jesus the Servant" based upon Mark's Gospel, we see that in the opening verses of 1-13, Mark calls forth the credentials of two men, John the Baptist and with special attention, of Jesus Christ. It is upon Jesus' credentials in particular that we will look in this week's message and it will be very helpful to read the first thirteen verses of Mark's Gospel a couple of times in advance of our gathering.

Lord willing, I look forward to joining you and your family for worship this week.
