Double Down on Joy

Aug 24, 2025    Kirk Flaa

I will likely raise a few eyebrows with this observation, yet it remains one I hold as true: Your happiness is not the over-riding concern of God. Now, that is not to say that God is not interested in your happiness but to assert that God wants you happy is not a statement we can align with the Biblical record. But tragically there are many in our culture and amongst Christians that hold to the false premise that God wants me happy and consequently justify a number of practices that are in opposition to God’s word.

I do believe however, that we can assert that God desires you to be full of joy. There is a crucial difference between the two and while one rests solely upon circumstances and felt needs, the other rests upon the completed work of Christ on Calvary’s hill. On Sunday we will look further at this distinction and learn how we can live a life of joy according to a Biblical definition.

Our text is Philippians 4:4-9 and Lord willing, I look forward to joining you and your loved ones for worship.
