If God, Why Evil?
We will take on one of life’s biggest questions this week, and one that causes great consternation amongst believers and non-believers alike. In Seminary, I learned this was called “Theodicy” and is essentially the effort of reconciling the existence of a good and all-powerful God and the existence of evil, and as a corollary, responding to the question: “If God is just, why do innocent people suffer?”
There is obviously a lot involved in this discussion and likely much more that we can fit into a sermon, even if I went with 7 points this week! Yet, by the illumination and wisdom of the Holy Spirit, we will endeavor to answer the question, “If God, why evil?” The book of Job is the “case study” with this topic and our starting point this week will be Job 2:10, although we will reference many other Scripture passages and their significance for our right understanding of this difficult topic.
